Working in a small village in the North of Scotland, I was interested how there seemed to be a rival between the 'locals' of the village and the 'incomers' - i.e., recent settlers. This migration of people had a history in the village - being a central part of the Highland Clearances - and so developed a series of games based around the Highland game of Shinty, pitting the 'locals' against the 'incomers' as a way to both physically and metaphorically explore this combative relationship.
